A member of a Greenville (N.C.) band was shot during a botched robbery outside a South Carolina night club early Tuesday morning, according to Rock Hill Police Lt. Brad Redfearn.Greenville-based Parmalee was playing at that club, and was involved in that shooting.A member that band said that Parmalee's Scott Thomas was shot outside a South Carolina club. Thomas is the drummer of Parmalee, and bassist Barry Knox said via e-mail message, "We (want to) figure out the state of our drummer."The shooting followed an armed-robbery attempt. Members of Parmalee were inside an RV when two men forced their way into that vehicle. One of those men had a gun and demanded money.One person was killed in the shootout."We do know that both parties exchanged fire," said Redfearn, indicating that a member of Pamalee was also armed.During that shootout, a member of the band was shot while one of the would-be robbers was killed, Redfearn said. Another suspect was also shot."One of the suspects was killed on the scene and the other was struck. He got away from the RV," Redfearn said. "We found him about 100 yards away. He was on the ground. A victim was also struck."Redfearn said the two men were transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He added that the victim, a member of Parmalee, is in critical condition while the suspect is in stable condition

I don't want to celebrate this guy . . . drunk driving is NEVER an acceptable thing to do . . . but still: It's a pretty rare feat to get charged with THREE DUIs for driving THREE separate vehicles in one drunk night.

--On Monday night, 54-year-old Tommy Ryser of Blaine, Washington, was drunk . . . and crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole.

--So he walked home and got his wife's Volkswagen Golf, to go back to his truck. But on the way, he crashed again . . . this time into a guardrail.

--It didn't stop there. Because then he went BACK home to get his tow truck . . . yeah, he owned a tow truck too . . . so he could clear the scenes of his accidents and get both vehicles back home.

--But the police were already by the pickup when Tommy pulled up. They walked over to his tow truck, saw him bleeding from the forehead . . . and pieced together his night.

--He was arrested and charged with THREE DUIs.

--It's unclear when she got the tattoo, but since she just announced the title at the "MTV Video Music Awards" on Sunday night . . . there's a good chance that she had the ink before making the big announcement.

Supposedly she even still has a private facebook page with only 400 friends. The pictures went from her and her girlfriend smiling and hanging out in their sweatpants with no makeup to all new Lady Gaga pictures. So who is Gaga really? According to those who knew her, a friendly, social, party girl!

A former bodyguard for Britney Spears is suing her for assault, charging that she hit her children, had sex in front of them and made them eat until they vomited. This shocking lawsuit is being filed by Fernando Flores, who was a bodyguard. Flores also claims that Britney harassed him by walking around naked and saying provocative things. The worst of the claims is that Flores says he overheard Britney having loud "relations" while her kids were in the same room. He goes on to say that Britney once asked for his belt and then started screaming for her son, yelling "Preston", and ran towards the house where she hit him twice with the belt. Supposedly Brit also made the boys eat seafood despite their allergies to it.

Oprah Winfrey wants a piece of Lindsay Lohan. She is in talks with the star to have her appear during the final season of her show. Sources claim that a deal has actually been finalized. Lindsay has been offered just about every interview possible but has been holding out for the biggest. Not much, if anything can top being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey! No word yet on when the episode will take place!

We're always a little skeptical about different tricks you can use to pick your baby's gender . . . if there was really a technique that worked, I feel like we'd all know it by now. But this one has a little science behind it, so we're gonna pass it along.

--A team of scientists at Maastricht University in the Netherlands say they've figured out a two-step process to help you influence your future baby's gender. Those steps are:

#1.) If you want a girl, try to conceive anytime except on the days right before or after the woman's ovulation. If you want a boy, try to conceive during those pre- and post-ovulation days.

2.) If you want a girl, eat foods that are high in calcium and magnesium, like yogurt, cheese, spinach, tofu, almonds, oatmeal, broccoli, oranges, cashews and whole wheat cereals. And cut out foods that are high in sodium or potassium.

--If you want a boy, eat foods that are high in sodium and potassium like olives, bacon, salami, smoked salmon, potatoes and meat. And cut out foods that are high in calcium and magnesium.

--In the study, 172 women stuck as closely as possible to the steps for conceiving a girl. And 80% of them, or four out of five, actually did conceive a girl.

10 FOODS TO AVOID ON A FIRST DATE:

First dates can be a nightmare: You want to make a good impression, so you stress about what to wear and what to say. And even if you get those things right, you can still blow it by ordering food that's going to embarrass you.
--So to help you out, we've got a list from "City Pages" of 10 foods you should supposedly avoid on a first date.

#1.) SPAGHETTI. It may be delicious, but it can be messy and un-flattering. Bascially, "Lady and the Tramp" is the only time spaghetti ever worked on a first date.
#2.) SOUP. Just like spaghetti, it's nearly impossible to eat soup without looking like a jackass.
#3.) VEAL. Depending on where your date stands on this one, ordering veal can be like saying, "I'm cool with torturing baby farm animals." You're better off just avoiding it.
#4.) BURGERS. On the one hand, hamburgers are messy: Between the grease, the sauce, and the toppings, something is bound to drip. And unless you're at an upscale place, burgers don't really belong on a first date anyway.
--On the other hand . . . forget all that: Hit up a great burger joint, have fun being messy together, and maybe it could be a great first date. It just depends.
#5.) RIBS, WINGS, OR FRIED CHICKEN. Here's a general rule: If you don't eat it with a knife and fork, you're better off avoiding it.
#6.) WATERMELON OR CORN ON THE COB. Alright, so ribs and burgers are already off-limits, and now you're supposed to cross off watermelon and corn on the cob. Basically what they're saying is, just avoid any type of barbeque altogether.
#7.) ICE CREAM CONES. An ice cream cone on a hot summer day is usually thought of as refreshing and romantic. But it can also be a mess. Your call.
#8.) MEXICAN, INDIAN, CHINESE, OR THAI FOOD. The spices in international foods make the mucus membranes in your nose work overtime. You can be adventurous on the first date, so don't rule this stuff out completely.
--But you also don't want to get a runny nose, or have your eyes watering over dinner.
9.) GARLIC. This one shouldn't even need an explanation, but just in case: Garlic is delicious, and you can try and mask it with gum . . . but you're still rolling the dice.
#10.) SPINACH DIP, PARSLEY OR PESTO SAUCE. There's NOTHING you can do to kill a date faster than getting a little green leaf stuck between your teeth.

Celebrities can do anything! Nicolas Cage was supposed to start filming a new
movie called “Trespass.” He quit two weeks before they were supposed to start
filming! Instead he went away to the Bahamas on vacation! He was supposed to
make $7 million for doing the movie! If the movie doesn’t get made, he could get
sued!

Over the last few days we have been hearing some new “American Idol” rumors. We
know that Ellen DeGeneres is no longer with the show that is official! FOX did
try and talk her out of it! We’ve heard that Kara DioGuardi was fired. Fox will
not confirm or deny whether she is coming back or not. Are Jennifer Lopez and
Steven Tyler joining the Idol family??? Fox will only say that some of the
information we hear is accurate and that some is inaccurate!!! Apparently there
are no signed deals with anybody yet!

According to TMZ, while Lindsay Lohan was in prison she did a lot of writing.
They say she filled up a few notebooks about her experience behind bars. TMZ
claims that eventually Lindsay hopes to turn her journals into a book.

Charlie Sheen will not be going to jail for threatening his wife Brooke Mueller
with a knife at Christmas time. Charlie pleaded guilty to third-degree domestic
violence. He will be getting no jail time!!! Instead he gets 30 days at the
Promises clinic in Malibu. There he will work on “behavioral modification!”
WHAT??? Celebs live in such a different world!

PERFECTIONISTS ARE 51% MORE LIKELY THAN SLACKERS TO DIE AN EARLY DEATH:

If you're the kind of person who religiously pays every bill on time, alphabetizes your CDs and DVDs, and makes sure every single detail in every e-mail you send is absolutely perfect . . . here's some bad news.

--The guy with the 543 credit score who's smoking reefer on the stained, used couch he bought from Goodwill is probably going to outlive you.

--According to a study by Trinity Western University, perfectionists are 51% more likely than laid-back people to DIE AN EARLY DEATH.

--The stress and anxiety that come with perfectionism take enough of a toll on the body that they can cause health problems that shrink your life expectancy. Stuff like heart disease and hypertension.

--The study did find one big health benefit to perfectionism though. If you've got type two diabetes, your perfectionism helps you keep your blood sugar levels where they need to be.

--Perfectionists were 26% less likely than slackers to die from diabetes or its complications.

I'm not usually one to be suspicious of the Mexicans . . . but I have it on good authority that they got us addicted to their delicious food, and now they're using it to POISON US.

--According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of people who got food poisoning from salsa and guacamole has more than DOUBLED in the last decade.

--Between 1984 and 1997, about 1.5% of food poisoning cases at restaurants were connected to salsa and guacamole. Between 1998 and 2008, that exploded to 3.9% of cases, or one out of every 25 cases.

--The main reason is that Mexican food has gotten more popular, so more people than ever are eating salsa and guacamole.

--And since those two foods don't require any cooking . . . where the heat could kill the bad bacteria . . . it's easier for them to cause an outbreak.

--Bad storage times and temperatures were responsible in 30% of the Mexican food poisoning cases. A food worker passing his own germs into your salsa and guacamole was responsible 20% of the time.

MEN ARE AFRAID TO ORDER VEGETABLES OR YOGURT BECAUSE IT MAKES THEM LOOK "GAY":

Apparently, there's a reason men go to restaurants and order things like steak and gravy. And it's not just because they're delicious. No . . . men order those things so they look HETEROSEXUAL.

--A new study found that men at restaurants gravitate to stereotypically manly things, like the words "heavy" and "hearty," and foods like gravy and meat. And they stay away from stereotypically female things, like vegetables, white wine, and yogurt.

--Even if a man really wants a delicious pasta with a white wine sauce, he might order meat sauce instead, because, quote, "men forgo their preferences to conform to a masculine gender identity."

--Or, as "Toronto Life" magazine puts it in their write-up of the study, quote, "guys are socially conditioned to think [ordering things like] yogurt makes them gay."

--The study did find that men WILL sometimes order feminine-sounding foods when they have less time to order.

--In other words, if they have less time to think about how they'll be judged for their order, the more likely they are to order what they really want . . . no matter how feminine it is.

Lindsay left crying but the waitress denies hitting her. She says she didn't touch the 'little train wreck' but she'd 'like to.' Lindsay is set to appear before the judge she blew off for Cannes today. It's possible she could end up in jail.

If you're a procrastinator, this week is for you... next week, start using some of these methods to overcome your need to put off important tasks.

10. Make a lunch or dinner date (to create a deadline).

A deadline will light a fire under your butt and keep your eye on the clock. Make a date with your co-worker or friend to have lunch at a set time, and use it as a deadline for getting your morning tasks done.

9. Write down the first thing you have to do tomorrow morning and put it on your keyboard before you leave the office.

The best time of the day to get things done is first thing in the morning, so make it easy on yourself. Every evening, before you leave the office, write down the single most important task you've got to get done the next day.

8. Don't check email for the first hour of the day.

Wait for one hour before you open up your email inbox in the morning. Instead of thoughtlessly reading email first thing, work on that task you laid out for yourself in #9. Accomplishing something out of the gate sets the tone for the rest of your day.

6. Edit that email you're writing down to less than five sentences.

No one likes to get long-winded email. The shorter your email is, the more likely you are to get a response. Make sure your emails are no more than five sentences. If your message has to be longer, pick up the phone and call instead.

5. Cut someone off.

When chatty Cathy's yapping your head off, a polite line like: "I hate to cut this short, but I've got an appointment" can save you hours of wasted time at the office.

4. Book a meeting with yourself.

If your head is spinning with all the stuff you've got to get done and the interruptions keep coming, you need some alone time. If the hours of your day keep getting stolen by meeting requests and drive-by interruptions, box out an hour or so every few days specifically to regroup and get organized.

3. Master the art of the qualified yes.

Don't be a yes-man or woman by default. When you have a choice (and most times you do), instead of automatically saying yes unconditionally to incoming requests, qualify it. See if it's something that can be put off till a later date or done by someone more available or better-suited.

2. Block out distractions and set a timer.

When your brain is frozen in a solid block of paralyzed procrastination around a task and you're letting yourself get carried away by distractions like email and instant messenger, it's time to take out the big guns. Turn off your email and IM client, grab a kitchen timer, set it for 10 minutes, and work until the beep. Then, take a break. Wash, rinse, and repeat.

1. Do a free jot brain dump.

When you're so stuck in a rut, take a piece of paper and a pen, go to a quiet place, and free jot for 10 minutes. Make lists. Mind map. Free associate ideas. Rant. Write down whatever comes to mind to get your juices flowing.

#1.) DON'T BUY EXTENDED WARRANTIES. They can cost hundreds of dollars, and you don't always need one. In fact, you usually don't. So be careful, especially in the electronics department. And ask to read the warranty before you sign it.

#2.) DON'T GET TRICKED INTO OVER-BUYING. Retailers put related products near each other so you'll buy one, then buy the other without thinking about whether you really need it or not.

#3.) DON'T SHOP AT THE END OF THE AISLE. When you're at stores like Target and Wal-Mart, don't assume something's on sale just because it's featured at the end of an aisle. They KNOW that's what you think, so they put full-priced items there instead.

#4.) BEWARE OF BUY-ONE-GET-ONE-FREE SALES. If you really do need two, then it's probably a great deal. But if it's something you can't use and don't need, then you're only buying it because it's on sale . . . which means you're wasting money.

31 Leftover Turkey ideas..YUM!

Too many leftovers to handle? Scrap that tired cold turkey sandwich and turn to one of our creative ideas for transforming yesterday's leftovers into delicious new meals.

Thanksgiving Turkey Salad
Mix chopped turkey with dried cranberries, walnuts, chopped celery and a little minced red onion. If you like blue cheese, crumble some in. Stir in some mayonnaise and serve on toasted brioche or leftover rolls from Thanksgiving dinner.

Stuffing Casserole
Butter a baking dish and line it with leftover stuffing that has been mixed with packaged french-fried onions, pressing the stuffing up the sides as best you can to make a little stuffing “pie shell.” In a bowl, mix together a can of cream of mushroom soup, 3/4 cup milk, frozen peas (or leftover green beans) and chopped turkey. Pour mixture into stuffing shell and sprinkle some cheese over the top. Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden and bubbly.

Thanksgiving Tacos
Saute a chopped onion in olive oil until translucent. Add minced garlic and saute for 1 minute more. Stir in shredded leftover turkey, 1 cup salsa and 1/3 cup water, and cook over low heat until the mixture looks soft and stew-like (about 15 minutes). Sprinkle with chopped cilantro, then fill taco shells with the mixture and top with shredded lettuce, cheese and sour cream.

Turkey Hash
Peel and dice 3 to 4 sweet potatoes into 1/2-inch pieces and cook in boiling water for about 5 minutes, or until tender; drain. Saute a chopped onion and green pepper in oil until soft, then season with garlic powder, salt and pepper. In a large bowl, mix the onion-pepper mixture, the sweet potatoes and chopped leftover turkey. Heat olive oil in a large skillet and add the sweet potato mixture, flattening it to the pan with the back of a wooden spoon. Cook potatoes until they form a crispy crust, then flip and cook until crispy on the other side.

Asian-Style Turkey Lettuce Wraps
Mix together equal amounts of hoisin sauce and barbecue sauce (use enough to generously coat the amount of turkey you have). Saute minced garlic and ginger in sesame oil for 1 minute, then stir in the hoisin mixture. Mix in finely chopped leftover turkey and minced scallions, and simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve with romaine lettuce leaves for wrapping up the mixture.

Turkey-ghetti
Saute chopped onions and green peppers in olive oil until softened. Add minced garlic and cook 1 minute more. Add finely chopped leftover turkey, spaghetti sauce and a splash or three of red wine, then cover and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Toss with cooked spaghetti and Parmesan cheese.

Corn Bread and Ham Muffins
Prepare your favorite corn bread mix according to the directions on the box. Before baking, fold in some chopped leftover ham, some shredded cheddar cheese and a sprinkling of sliced scallions. Fill muffin cups halfway with the mixture and bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm.

Mashed Potato Gratin
Saute onions, shallots or garlic (or all three) until soft. Blend with leftover mashed potatoes, minced leftover ham, a tablespoon or two of mustard and a small amount of milk or cream (just enough to make the potatoes soft again). Fill a buttered baking dish with the mixture and sprinkle some shredded cheese on top. Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake at 300 F until heated through (about 15 minutes).

Turkey Tortilla Soup
Slice corn tortillas into thin strips and cook in hot oil until crisp; remove to paper towels to drain. In a large pot, combine 32 ounces of chicken broth, 1 cup salsa (or stewed tomatoes) and a chopped zucchini. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Add chopped leftover turkey and heat through. Serve soup topped with your fried tortilla strips, sour cream and a splash of fresh lime juice.

Cranberry Sauce Chutney
This recipe assumes you have about 2 cups of leftover cranberry sauce to work with—adjust measurements to suit. Chop a medium onion and half an apple and saute until soft. Mix in 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger and cook for 1 minute, then add the cranberry sauce and 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool to room temperature and enjoy with cheese on crusty bread.

Ultimate Day-After Turkey Sandwich
Generously spread mayonnaise and ketchup on 2 slices of your favorite bread. Layer stuffing, turkey (dark meat is great here), cranberry sauce and a bit of mashed sweet potato on one slice of the bread. We’ve been known to sprinkle on some leftover fried onions from the green bean casserole as well. Top with remaining bread slice.

Leftover Hors D'oeuvres Soup
This is a great way to use up the crudites and cheese tray that no one touched. Cut your vegetables into 1- to 2-inch pieces. Saute a few chopped shallots in some butter until softened. Add your chopped vegetables and a few sprigs of thyme; saute for a minute, stirring to coat the vegetables in the butter. Add about 3 cups of chicken or vegetable stock for every 2 cups of vegetables that you’ve used. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes. Puree half the soup, then add it back into the pot and season with salt and pepper. Toast a few slices of leftover bread, sprinkle with cheese and broil until melted and golden. Float the cheesy croutons on top of the soup.

Curried Turkey Shepherd’s Pie
Saute chopped onions in olive oil until golden. Add a tablespoon of curry powder and some minced garlic and fry until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in a can of cream of chicken soup and 1/2 cup white wine. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until thickened but still fluid. (You can add a bit more wine if it gets too thick.) Mix in some frozen peas and some finely chopped leftover turkey meat and pour into a buttered casserole dish. Spread or pipe mashed potatoes over the mixture and top with some shredded cheddar cheese. Bake at 350 F for 20 to 30 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.

Husband’s Dinner
Cook enough rice for four people and let it cool. In the largest skillet you have, saute chopped onions, minced garlic and chopped pepperoni in olive oil for 4 to 5 minutes. Add chopped leftover turkey, diced apple and sliced scallions. Mix in a generous helping of curry powder and cook until everything is heated through. Thoroughly mix in the cooked rice and season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with some more fresh scallions before serving. This recipe was invented by a kindly husband who wanted to give his wife a break from cooking the day after Thanksgiving.

Cranberry Sauce Fudge Sundaes
In a small saucepan, mix cranberry sauce with a few tablespoons of Gran Marnier and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, warm up your favorite hot fudge sauce in a separate saucepan (or in the microwave). Scoop vanilla ice cream into bowls and drizzle the two sauces over the top. You might never look at cranberry sauce the same way again.

Green Bean Casserole Pasta
Saute generous amounts of chopped garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes in olive oil. When the garlic is soft, toss in shrimp and cook until just pink. Add leftover green bean casserole and 1/2 cup white wine (or water) and let bubble for 3 to 4 minutes, or until heated through. Toss with hot penne or fusilli pasta.

FOUR FRIDAY THE 13TH SUPERSTITIONS, AND HOW THEY STARTED:

It's Friday the 13th. Do you know why it's supposed to be an unlucky day? Some people think it comes from Christianity, because Jesus died on a Friday, there were 13 people at the Last Supper, and Judas was the 13th guest.

-- But don't worry . . . that's NOT where it came from. In fact, no one really knows for sure. If you think THAT'S interesting, here are four more superstitions, and the history behind each . . .

#1.) BREAKING A MIRROR. It's supposed to bring seven years of bad luck. That's because people used to think their reflection represented their soul. And if you broke that reflection, your soul would be damaged. As far as the seven years part goes, it's a bit of a mystery.

--But experts think it has to do with the Romans, who thought life renewed itself every seven years. So breaking a mirror was like breaking your soul, and it took seven years to start fresh.

#2.) WALKING UNDER A LADDER. In some cultures, the triangle symbolized life. And walking through a triangular shape was tempting fate. There's also just common sense: If you walk under a ladder, it could fall, or something on the ladder could fall and hit you on the head.

#3.) BLACK CATS. In the middle ages, people thought black cats could turn into witches and demons. Since no one wanted to cross paths with them, the idea that it was bad luck to cross paths with a black cat spread pretty easily.

#4.) SPILLING THE SALT. Salt was a luxury in the middle ages, and doctors used it too. So it was expensive, and wasting it was frowned upon. Some experts think it was originally considered bad form to spill the salt, then people naturally associated it with bad luck.

--But why do you have to throw some over your shoulder, and why does it have to be your LEFT shoulder? Well, traditional Christians thought the devil hung out on their left shoulder. So when they threw it OVER their shoulder, they were actually throwing it in the devil's face.

A&E has unveiled the start date for that Jackson Family reality series, "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty". It'll premiere on Sunday, December 13th.
--The show follows MICHAEL JACKSON'S brothers, JACKIE, JERMAINE, TITO and MARLON JACKSON, as they come together to both grieve Michael's death . . . and plan a reunion concert tour.
